Double switch mode

27 April

In our latest model, Gemini, we decided to implement a two-switch version of our double mode switch, and it can seems a little cryptic to understand in a short video with all that blinking stuff and so.
Let's see how it works in its basic form, with only one switch, in this shot instagram clip with posted some time ago.

In the basic version you will see:

  • SPST Momentary Footswitch
  • Toggle Switch or Pushbutton to toggle between mode one and two
  • a led to indicate which mode is selected (optional if you use toggle switch)
  • a suitable relay and a relay control circuit
Mode one and mode two are very straight forward:
  • Mode 1: classic footswitch, press&release and the pedal is active, press&release again and it is bypassed
  • Mode 2: when you press&hold the pedal is active, when you release the pedal is bypassed.
To switch between this two mode you can use a toggle or a pushbutton and they both have pro&cons: if you go with the pushbutton, it's easy and quick to press but you need to show the mode you are in with another led or with a blinking signal; if you go with a toggle, you can omit the led (or the blinking) but you have to print/write which position correspond to which mode.

This means that if we want to add the double-switch to a existing pedal we need to use a toggle or use a pushbutton plus a new led or use a pushbutton plus changing the existing led management.

All the operations are managed by a micro-controller on the board that fits in a 8-pin DIP socket like any op-amp.

As you can see it's very straightforward in its functioning but it can be quite a new way to interact with a pedal, even an old one.
That's why we're thinking of introducing a mod-kit with all you need to upgrade your pedal and a minimal kit with just a coded micro-controller and the PCB.
